I have been waiting for some good Vista stuff.
I have OutPost Pro but it's not doing Vista yet.
Avast is Pretty Good Stuff I have the paid version.
Do You think Carol Nice Geek Girl that PC Tools
Firewall is Pretty Good ?
I'm too interested in Program and Media Editors
that are Good if You have some experience there.
Write or publish if You have time and the inclination,

Hi Mark,

A friend of mine made a review on <a href="http://www.shivaranjan.com/2007/04/24/free-software-pc-tools-firewall-plus-20024-vista-compatible/" rel="external">Shivaranjan.com - Pc Tools Firewall Plus - and apparently he likes.

I haven't tried it myself because i am still on XP, but please visit the link above.

There's a nice description about it, and lots of screenshots.

If you do install it, please let me know your opinion about it.

For the rest, i am still looking for Vista freeware. It can take a little while to update the rest of the list....

Dear Carol
Get this one.
I installed PCTools Firewal plus but it had a virus according to Avast Anti Virus called Win32:VB-FP but since it has a Restore Point I was able set things right almost there is still something asking me to go into Administrative Mode to install a license or something but I'll get that figured and fix that too. Anyway I'm sure it's not Your fault as April 26 is supposed to be Bad Virus Day and I'm going to do a fresh install now that I know how things go and when New Java is updated to run in Vista and have a clean better organized Java Media Platform. By the by I sent the Win32: VB-FP to Avast for Analysis. I asked them to let me know if it is a real threat.

Hi Carol
I've decided to stick with Vista's Firewall and with that and My Hardware Firewall Router My Computer is Invisible on the Net.
It appears that Vista's Firewall is pretty good.
I have another that I paid for and I'll install it too if in works in conjunction with Vista's that way I'll have three Firewalls with anti-spyware too.

Mark, it's possible that you had a false alarm from Vista Firewall.
PCTools isn't from yesterday on the market and i don't see a reason why they would release a virus...
Anyway, there are lots of other paid security software that you can use.
BullGuard has a security suite specially released for Vista.

Winpatrol is compatible and works alongside any firewall.

Can I please put a plea in for removing shareware from this freeware list.
It is not free, you have to pay for it.
Easy enough to determine the difference the website has $ ammount on it!

If you download the "Mega Sound Recorder" onto your Vista machine you will receive a virus - some spyware and a broken sound system. Thnx - John

Vista came installed with my new laptop and have tried to live with it. Your page helps , thanks. My concern is that I can't get any video to play on any player just the sound. Do you have any solutions or have you heard of similar.

I think you are missing some codecs.
You might want to install K Lite Codec Pack. That will fix your problem.

Wow it is really good and useful list of Freeware for Windows Vista. Everything is put in one place so it is very comfortable for all people I think. The other good point is that people have the ability to choose a freeware from various alternatives. Thanks a lot for sharing it! I will be waiting for other great posts from you!
