I use software firewall so that I can control the applications which talk to internet.

I only use the windows firewall and the built in firewall of my router. I don't feel the need for anything else stronger than that. Maybe I need it, I don't know, but my computer feels okay at the moment :)

I have 3 firewalls protecting me. :D One is the DSL router which my ISP provided has got an in builtin hardware firewall and now my wireless router has also got a powerful built-in hardware firewall. In addition to this I also use Kerio personal firewall and it really good, but sadly it is not a freeware.

I use a zone alarm on on all my pc's, but at the head of the network I have a old computer that I set up as a firewall. That way if anything tries to get in, they just see the old computer. To buy hardware firewalls would be expensive, but you can set up an old comp pretty cheaply.

Sorry Carol i use McAfee,which does trace the event but you can also report the event if you want,total waste of time because the same IP addresses have been trying to get into my computer for the six months i've had it.

I am using software firewall and i tried setting up my wireless router to forward traffic to some ports but i am not that good with it.
All in one,the set up is done good but i don't know how safe i made it.
I rely a lot on the Zonealarm firewall.It's a really great one but i have heard that Comodo firewall does about just as good as ZA.
What do you use?

How about you Dave?
Did you do a visual trace route?If so,then i suppose you use Norton.

Very interesting article.After reading it i decided to do a little experiment to see how many attempts were made to get into my computer in an hour and it totalled 21,most of the Ip addresses originating in the far east in Shanghai and Ningbo,but reaching my computer via Paris,New York and then Leeds in the UK.
