Because there are things that you can do by yourself as good as a pro. And we don't really need that much advice because of all the information sharing. And btw,there's nothing wrong with charging but what if you know at least half of what he'll be telling you,and even done that half?

Thanks for sharing. I guess everyone of us are hungry for that but I would not trade having a lot of readers (esp who keep commenting like you) on my blog. I think blog to gain friends than gain more hits - - but I understand this is a techie advice and you're always good at it.

That's very true K. I would be a liar though if i said that i don't pay attention to the traffic. I do,but my i am not going to make an issue about it.Plus,i don't do bad on the search engines. :)
The "party" was actually Tuesday evening and i was very sick Wednesday,all day.It continued this afternoon when i went out with my best friend and had a very nice lunch. Have a smooth week-end K.

It doesn't matter how people tell you how to write a blog or what the content should be,a blog is suppossed to be your personal thoughts and if anybody reads it ,brilliant.To be honest with you i'm the grumpy old bastard who could'nt care less if anybody read my comments or not .I must admit its nice to get peoples comments but its not the end of the world if nobody leaves a comment.To me if people think something i've posted is a load of bollocks.,so what ,its what i've got to say and if nobodys interested its not the end of the world.I seriously think that people take this blogging business too seriously.Can i ask you a question Carol does it really bother you how many people have visited your site,because on our Site Dan always looks at how many visitors we've had while i not really bothered.It could be because i'm the easy going one, i don't really know. If you think i'm talking a load of bollocks tell me please and tell me to shut up.

Dave,you are right and you're not talking bollocks at all.No one should care about that. It has become a fashion though to attract visitors especially if you are blogging for money and it is always good to know the clean ways to get traffic,visitors and how to keep them coming back.
But...because i don't blog for money,but for pleasure, traffic doesn't mean much,if the visitors are just bumping into my pages and find nothing to use or nothing to get their attention and they just leave. You blog to vent and be grumpy;I blog because i like collecting and promoting free things for people who like them or need them . Yours is more personal but I need to reach an audience because the content of my blog asks for it.
I am perfectly aware of what type of visitors i have ,for what they are coming to my blog and i know if they'll be coming back or not and because of that i am at peace with myself when it comes about traffic.
Now,i can't help it when i have like over 2000 people a day visiting my blog and i feel .... let's say pride for being able to contribute with something to their day or to their needs, but it doesn't bother me if next day i only have 400,200 or 100 visits.
Once you get the attention,it's a bit hard not to want it back....at least for a little bit longer.

I totally agree with everything you say Carol,your blog is more specialised and will appeal to a broader range of people being technically based,whereas our blog is just what we want to do on the day,no set plan no set agenda.Now i don'y know if you've heard of these programs but they are only available in a British magazine,might be worth you having a look at them,you never know one of them might be worthwhile. 1)Oenoffice Premium 2)Fresh diagnose 3)Corel Snapfire Would have sent them as a link but for some reason my computer hates me.They are all freeware.

I totally agree with everything you say Carol,i think your blog appeals to the more technically gifted among us and people will visit your site regularly to see what freeware you are recommending or what hints you are giving regarding computing,whereas me and danny have what i would call our regular visitors and a bit of passing traffic.

The chances are ,in time,that blogs such yours and Danny's will get a very good audience ....well,once they get used with your humour. Personal blogs are often visited and you get your own fans who are on the same wave as you. Plus,every thought is very personal and often unique so it's chilling to visit personal blogs. And so you know,i love reading your blog,even though i won't be always leaving a comment.
Blogs such as mine are in tons and there's competition on who's giving the next best "howto double your traffic" or " howto speed up your computer". Probably that's why is all this heat about traffic when it comes about tech blogs.

I totally agree with the ideas you have mentioned. But I got another suggestion for bloggers to find blogs that are of similar topics and ask for link exchange. They could go to blog directories (e.g. http://blogannounce.info) and then go to the category their blog belongs to and then visit other blogs. Post comments and then contact the blog owner. I like this method because similar blogs tend to attract the same targeted groups and thus are more likely to lead referrals. And by the way, bloggers could submit their blogs to directories and get more traffic.

Those blog directories aren't so useful to me.I have submited my blog to few good ones and don't really get traffic from there. But maybe for some people is working.I don't know. I have lots of google hits for example and Stumbles.

First I would like to congratulate you for this blog. In my like I always seek to learn things and the value of knowledge and discovering things and I always value people who do that, like you. Life, in my view, is discovering things, like a child that is always trying to know how things work.
I realized that not many people do this actually, so, that's why I value this when I find it and here, in your blog, it is clear to me the kind of effort you have done. This blog always reveals to me the way you care for things to be well done and your intelligence and sense of clarity choosing the most pratical and direct way of doing things. Of course the pleasure of discovering things and sharing are very clear also.
I can be wrong, but no blog have impressed me so much as yours.
